Asahan, 5th September 2024—In commemoration of the 57th anniversary of Royal Golden Eagle (RGE) or RGE Founder’s Day 2024, Asian Agri, through its business units spread across North Sumatra, Riau, and Jambi, conducted various community service activities. These initiatives align with the company’s 5C philosophy, ensuring that the company’s presence benefits the community, country, climate, customer, and company.

One of Asian Agri’s business units, PT Saudara Sejati Luhur (PT SSL), participated in the RGE Founder’s Day celebrations by planting tree saplings and cleaning the Aek Sakur River, located in Gonting Malaha Village, Bandar Pulau Subdistrict, Asahan Regency, North Sumatra. Additionally, the company raised awareness about the dangers of forest and land fires (Karhutla) among school children.

“The tree planting and river cleanup activities we organised are part of our company group’s 57th anniversary celebration, RGE. Today, PT SSL employees carried out various community service efforts, from educating schoolchildren on preventing forest and land fires to planting saplings along the Aek Sakur River banks,” said Group Manager of PT SSL, Ashari Praja Kesuma.

The Head of Gonting Malaha Village, Supian, who joined the social service activities, expressed his appreciation for PT SSL’s care for the local community.

“We extend our gratitude to Asian Agri and wish the RGE Group a happy anniversary. We hope the company continues to advance and bring benefits to the surrounding communities,” said Supian.

Supian also highlighted the positive impact of planting fruit-bearing trees along the riverbanks. “The river is surrounded by cliffs, with little coverage of hardy vegetation, which often leads to landslides. Today’s tree planting will help reduce erosion, and we hope the fruit trees will eventually provide an economic benefit to the villagers,” he added, while planting saplings on 3 September 2024.

Yapdi Bandar Pulau Vocational School also took part in the tree planting activities along the riverbanks. PT SSL further educated the students on the dangers of Karhutla.

The Head of Yapdi Bandar Pulau Vocational School, Sudarmaji, expressed his gratitude to PT SSL for their support and attention to the students regarding the importance of environmental conservation.

“On behalf of the school, we are grateful to Asian Agri for their concern for our school by educating students on the importance of environmental care, including preserving riverbanks through tree planting and raising awareness about the dangers of forest fires. As a vocational school specialising in plantation management, we also appreciate the company’s efforts in educating our students on sustainable oil palm cultivation practices. We hope our school, with its Agribusiness and Plantation programme, can send our students for internships at Asian Agri,” said Sudarmaji.

The tree planting, river cleanup, and educational activities were fully supported by the Gonting Malaha Village Government, as well as teachers and students from Yapdi Bandar Pulau Vocational School.

In addition to these activities, all Asian Agri business units carried out a range of other initiatives across their operational areas, including free health checks and beach cleanups in Jakarta. These activities have been taking place from August through September 2024 in North Sumatra, Riau, and Jambi.
