Asian Agri introduces an oil palm seed called Topaz which has various advantages.
“Asian Agri has an Oil Palm Research Station (OPRS) in Topaz, the goal is to develop high-yielding varieties in a sustainable way in order to provide maximum results and have an impact on Indonesian oil palm productivity,” said Asian Agri Head of Plant Breeding, Yopy Dedywiryanto during the Cakap-Cakap Tribun Medan which was broadcast live on Facebook and Instagram Tribun Medan, Wednesday (30/6/2021).
Yopy said the establishment of the Topaz OPRS began with Asian Agri’s commitment to research development to produce superior oil palm planting materials in terms of quantity, production and quality.
Yopy stated that this commitment began with the implementation by Asian Agri in 1992 with selection, and in 1996-1998 OPRS started planting selected elite dura and pisifera in Topaz plantations.
He added, with the production potential of Topaz from crossing the first generation for six years from 1996-2004, the potential production of 16 tons of FFB per hectare, and an average of 31 tons of FFB per hectare from the third year to TM6 with an OER potential of 22 percent.
Based on this potential, OPRS Topaz succeeded in obtaining permits for the release of Topaz varieties one, two, three, and four in accordance with the letter from the Indonesian Minister of Agriculture dated January 16, 2004.
