Asian Agri, a palm oil plantation company that operates in three provinces (North Sumatra, Riau and Jambi), through its Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) activities held a community empowerment program in conjunction with the World Environment Day on June 5, 2020.
Asian Agri business unit, PT Inti Indosawit Subur (IIS) planted 1,000 tree seedlings in Laniago River corridor as part of its commitment to preserve the environment.
On a separate occasion, PT IIS in Jambi area launched an ecobrick program in observance of support the Environment Day, engaging the community to drive an ecobrick program in the operational area of PT IIS Jambi. The ecobrick program is to transform the plastic waste into multi-function products, like the plastic bottles that are filled with plastic waste to make blocks, which can be used as a variety of products, such as seats, flower pots, building walls and various other forms.
The idea of making Ecobrick emerges from the company’s concern about the large amount of household plastic waste. “We have information that domestic waste from employee housing and the factory operation in Merlung Village, Merlung District, Tanjung Jabung Barat District has reached up to two dump trucks, of which around 40% are plastic waste,” said Tatar Simanjuntak , Manager of Mills in Tungkal Ulu.
