Asian Agri through its business unit PT Rantau Sinar Karsa (PT RSK) has provided assistance for the Small and Medium Enterprises (SMEs) in the pottery sector in Tanjung Harapan village, Pangkatan district, Labuhan Batu regency, North Sumatra.

The assistance, in the form of procurement of materials and equipment, is expected to boost the productivity of each craftsman in North Sumatra.

“We really support the growth of pottery industry, particularly because this is a new sector which is still rare in North Sumatra,” said M. Irvan Andryan, the manager of PT RSK.

He said that prior to the assistance program from Asian Agri was carried out, materials and equipment were procured from Java.

Sugino, a craftsman, said although pottery is a promising industry, he and his colleagues have been facing numerous challenges in running the industry in North Sumatra.

From the struggle to procure materials and equipment until the difficulties to market their commodity, there are so many aspects hampering the growth of this industry.
