Asian Agri was awarded the 2017 Energi Lestari Award by Gatra Magazine on 15 September. The award was given for Asian Agri’s contribution to the development of new and renewable energy in Indonesia, reported Gatra on its website.

“On this evening, as well as the 23rd birthday of Gatra Magazine, we give appreciation to state-owned and private companies and institutions committed to the development of new and renewable energy,” said Gatra Media Group President Director Tigor M Tanjung.

Asian Agri won the award for its construction of Biogas Power Plants (PLTBG), which convert organic waste from the palm oil production process into electricity.

Seven are so far in operation, with plans to take the total to 20 by 2020. Each plant produces 2.2MW of electricity, enough to power Asian Agri’s palm oil mills as well as provide excess capacity to local communities.
