Explore the diverse Topaz seed varieties developed by Asian Agri, all “Tested and Proven” to deliver enhanced production and specific traits tailored to the needs of oil palm growers.
To develop Asian Agri’s proprietary Topaz seed range, the team at its Oil Palm Research Station (OPRS) conducted extensive research on the Deli dura oil palm variety, originally from Costa Rica. After decades of breeding and selection, they successfully crossbred Deli dura with various Pisifera types – palms known for their small, shell-less fruit. These R&D efforts resulted in the creation of several Topaz seed varieties, each designed to meet the evolving needs of oil palm growers.

Topaz Seed Varieties & Their Best Use Cases:
Topaz 1: Deli Dura x Nigerian Pisifera
• Developed from the Nigerian Pisifera’s thinner shells, which result in higher oil yields and less shell waste during processing.
• Produces fruit in two colour types: green (ripens to bright orange) and black (ripens to dark orange).
• Best for: Dry land, due to its high bunch number and weight.
Topaz 2: Deli Dura x Ghanaian Pisifera
• Combines the high oil content of Ghanaian Pisifera with the robust growth and fruitfulness of Deli Dura.
• Has a thicker mesocarp (the oil-rich fruit flesh).
• Leaf bases are marked by a brownish-orange hue.
• Best for: Hilly or terraced areas, thanks to its shorter fronds.
Topaz 3: Deli Dura x Ekona Pisifera
• Inherits the Ekona Pisifera’s trait of producing more male flowers, improving pollination and yields.
• Features straighter, more upright leaves that aid harvesting.
• Best for: Peatlands, as the increase in male flowers supports better fruit production in these conditions.
Topaz 4: Deli Dura x Yangambi Pisifera
• Known for large fruit kernels and higher oil content.
• The tallest among the Topaz range.
• Ongoing R&D aims to optimise height and further enhance CPO yields.
• Best for: Farmers seeking maximum oil content and larger kernels, with ongoing support to manage tree height.
Topaz GT (Ganoderma Tolerant)
• Specially bred to resist Ganoderma, a fungus that causes Basal Stem Rot disease.
• Best for: Areas with a history of high Ganoderma outbreaks or for replanting zones where disease resistance is critical.
