[SAWIT INDONESIA] LEARNING ON MECHANIZATION IN ASIAN AGRI’S PLANTATIONS

Asian Agri, an Indonesian palm oil company has implemented a mechanization system to increase productivity. In operational activities both in plantations and palm oil mills (PKS), the company uses a Bin System for the transportation of palm fresh fruit bunches (FFB) and palm cutters.

Omri Samosir, Head of Operations of Asian Agri, in a webinar discussion entitled ’Achieving Productivity and High Efficiency Based on Palm Oil Mechanization’, said that “The implementation of mechanization in Asian Agri is not new.. This system has been running since 1997, although it is still limited to land clearing.”

Omri also said that for daily operations, the company uses a Bin System for transporting FFB. “This helps us to reduce the loading workforce for handling FFB weighing more than 25 kilograms (kg). We usually face difficulties in finding reliable loaders,” he explained.

Omri added that around 40 percent of Asian Agri’s oil palm plantation areas have used the Bin System. “This is effective and efficient in increasing palm productivity while reducing production costs,” he said.
