With his strong will and determination, Zulkifli Sihombing or Haji Sihombing, in 1981 ventured out of his homeland in Padang Panjang, North Sumatra to go to Merlung (Jambi) which was still a wilderness at that time.
Prior to becoming an oil palm farmer, Sihombing was a rubber farmer, until 1997 he got to know Asian Agri. By the time, Zulkifli who is also a father of three children immediately decided to join as an independent smallholder that is in partnership with the company.
Sihombing saw the opportunity to work with Asian Agri as an opportunity. “I explore by myself how Asian Agri provided assistance to their smallholder partners in order to better manage oil palm plantations. Fortunatelly, my late wife also supported me to become an oil palm farmer, that’s why I decided to settle in Jambi and focus on working on oil palm plantations,” Sihombing added.
