Jambi, 17 September 2019 – In the effort to reduce global warming, PT. Inti Indosawit Subur (Asian Agri) today handed over tree seedlings to State Vocational High School (SMKN) 3 Tanjung Jabung Barat, Jambi Province.
Welly Pardede, Head of Asian Agri Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR), said planting fruit trees will be beneficial to schools and students, especially during the dry season when school yards are arid.
Besides being a source of oxygen, trees are able to retain water in the soil and absorb pollutant gases.
“The fruit crops planted will also enhance the look of the school and make it more lush and green. This will help support the students to learn in a more comfortable environment as the air will also be cool and fresh. Additionally, they will also be able to eat the fruit produced by the trees later,” Welly said.
M. Luth, Senior Manager at PT Inti Indosawit Subur in Tungkal Ulu, explained the green initiatives in the school can contribute towards developing the students into individuals who are concerned about environmental sustainability. By building awareness among the students in this way, it is expected that they will have a positive influence on their families to create green homes.
Herlizal S.Pd, Head of SMKN 3 Tanjung Jabung Barat, expressed his gratitude to Asian Agri. “This activity helps to bridge the relationship between the business world and the education world. We urge all our SMKN students to take part in maintaining and caring for these fruit plants as we will be the ones who will be enjoying their benefits,” he said.
Present to witness the tree handover activity was Drs Agusman Mpd, Vocational Supervisor of the Jambi Provincial Education Office, Kasmuni SAg, Head of KUA Merlung, representatives from the Merlung Subdistrict, as well as teachers and students from SMKN 3 Tanjung Jabung Barat.
