Riau, May 11, 2018 – Asian Agri hosted 25 Indonesian diplomats as part of a programme by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs to train overseas staff on the importance of the industry.
The Indonesian diplomats witnessed Asian Agri’s sustainable palm oil production, including plantation management, the harvesting process, and the Integrated Pest Management system which uses natural alternatives to chemicals to control pests.
The visit to Buatan, Riau was supported by the Palm Oil Plantation Fund Management Agency and came as part of the Training Oil Palm Materials activities for School Participants, Staff and Foreign Service Leaders by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs.
To understand Asian Agri’s efforts in supporting environmental sustainability and providing environmentally friendly renewable energy, the diplomats also visited the company’s biogas power plant, which converts organic waste from the production process into clean electricity.
The Indonesian diplomats also visited plantations belonging to some of Asian Agri’s smallholder partners which recently went through the replanting process, and had the opportunity to meet the farmers.
