Ukui, 27 February 2018 – Asian Agri recently held a training session in Bagan Limau Village of Riau, Indonesia, as part of its ongoing efforts to raise public fire prevention awareness, as well as the capabilities of the village’s Fire Aware Community (‘Masyarakat Peduli Ali’, MPA) in supporting the company’s Fire Free Village Program.

Among those present at the event were Environmental and Forestry Training Center representative, Muhammadun, S.Hut; Bagan Limau Village Secretary, Dr. Slamet Wahyudi; Asian Agri Plasma Manager at Ukui, Agung Wardana; Bagan Limau Village Fire Crew leader, Z. Harahap; eight members of MPA; and 80 Asian Agri farmers.

Asian Agri’s Fire Free Village Coordinator, Hafiz Hazalin, said that Asian Agri will continue working with members of the Fire Aware Community – either in groups or individually – in improving their fire prevention skills, as well as their capabilities to form relationships with stakeholders.

“The communities need to be trained to develop both good communication techniques and fire extinguishing techniques,” he said.

Bagan Limau Village has been a member of Asian Agri’s Fire Free Village Program since 2017. The village has been equipped with fire extinguishing equipment and training, which is meant for the prevention of land and forest fires around the village.
