Asian Agri recently planted 1,020 trees around the Aek Tarum River of the Gonting Malaha Village in Indonesia’s Asahan Regency, in commemoration of World Tree Day this year.
The event was organized through Asian Agri’s business unit PT Gunung Melayu, in cooperation with the Anugerah Swadaya Farmer Association, reported Waspada on its website.
PT Gunung Melayu General Manager Victory Brahmana said the tree-planting event was organized in a bid to preserve the environment.
“The aim of planting trees in the long term is to maintain the ecosystem of the area around the river, which is a High Conservation Value Area,” said Victory.
Tree planting is also a kind of future investment for our families, so that our grandchildren too will be able to enjoy the natural beauty we do today, he added.
“This is in line with the World Tree Day celebration theme for this year – Planting Trees for the Future and Sustainable Natural Balance,” said Victory.
The celebration saw various types of fruit tree seedlings being planted in the river’s vicinity, including dogfruit, petai, durian and mangosteen seedlings. Meanwhile, avocado, langsat, water apple and longan plants were planted in house yards within the village.
