Indonesian President Joko Widodo showed interest in Asian Agri’s Topaz palm oil seeds when he visited the company’s booth during the Trade Expo Indonesia (TEI) 2017 event held recently in BSD City, Tangerang.
The president was accompanied by First Lady Iriana Joko Widodo, Coordinating Minister for Economic Affairs Darmin Nasution, Trade Minister Enggartiasto Lukita and Cabinet Secretary Pramono Anung.
Ang Boon Beng, Asian Agri Topaz Seeds Senior Breeder, explained that Asian Agri is intensifying efforts towards further development of Topaz palm oil seedlings, which can produce high quality palm oil products.
When questioned by President Joko Widodo, Ang responded that Asian Agri has a Topaz plantation area of 300 hectares in Riau with Topaz seed production capacity reaching 25 million seedlings per year.
“Currently we produce in accordance with existing demand,” Ang said.
Meanwhile, Bernard Riedo, Head of Sustainability and Stakeholder Relations at Asian Agri expressed gratitude to the Indonesian President for his presence at the Asian Agri booth.
“It is an honor for us at TEI 2017 for President Joko Widodo to visit our booth and engage in a dialogue directly about the development of the palm oil industry, production capacity and superior seeds that we produce.
“He asked us – Asian Agri – to aid palm oil farmers in the fields to acquire superior seeds for better crops,” Bernard said.
Bernard added: “We will be using this opportunity to educate and promote Indonesia’s sustainable palm oil, which is environmentally friendly, and to build partnerships with farmers.”
This is Asian Agri’s first time participating in TEI, affirming the company’s commitment to managing sustainable palm oil plantations.
